Lately I have been pondering the significance of the Titus 2 mandate.
I wonder whether we truly understand how much wisdom can be gleaned from the virtuous women who have gone before us! Though we may give lip service to this truth, do we really see and comprehend the importance of an older godly woman's council? It seems evident that our culture has set up a deep undercurrent of rebellion against ones elders.
For this reason we must consciously commit our minds to the Word of God in order to guard our hearts. We must be careful to select our mentors wisely, be humble and willing to seek their advice. Though we may think we already know so much,
there is much wisdom we can learn from the women that have gone before us.
A woman who has cared for her family for 30 years, for example, has obviously had more experience than a young bride who is but a year into marriage. Whether young, old, married or unmarried, women who look to older pious women to glean wisdom will be surely blessed.
The Bible assures us of this in Titus.....
"Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves to much wine.
They are to teach what is good, and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled."
- Titus 2:2-5
We should strive to create in our hearts,
by the power of Jesus, a spirit of humility and a spirit of reverence for the women
who have walked the grounds we are about to walk.
Before there was the "how to be a good housekeeper book", there was mother who had done it beautifully for years on end. Before there was a "how to be a good mother book", there was Elena from church who had raised godly children with much sacrifice. Instead of turning to the book shelves (although many books do help us) let's turn to the godly women in our lives,
whether it be our own mothers or older women and let's simply ask .....
"How do you cook a turkey?"
"How did you handle 3 o'clock feedings?"
"How did you teach your wee ones scripture?"
"How did you glorify God in
the sphere he placed you in?"
You may be surprised at the wisdom they might offer you.
So be daring and seek advice from those
godly women who have gone before you.
I know you will be blessed and here is the most special
thing..... I know they will be as well!
For further reading I would highly recommend-

So true... I have one friend here, in particular, who has a lot of wisdom and gives great, practical advice. She's a real Titus 2 friend to me.
What a blessing that you have a godly,
Titus 2 woman in your life!
