A Trip to the...

Opera...
Last Friday night was the day I made the journey
to the Opera for the first time ever!
In a black gown velvet fringed shawl and
small clutch I entered with my dearest Aunt
who was adorned in charming sparkling red.
Swiftly we found our seats and
darkness fell upon the room.... with
immediate silence and hush, hush,
light was on the red curtains and Mozart's
lofty music from The Marriage of Figaro
began to resonate the room.

It was a moment in time and an event
that I will never forget. This special time was
spent with my dear Aunt Teresa who I treasure
in so many ways...... one who has always supported
me in all my endeavors with her
exuberant joy and encouragement!

Sweet memories and special moments were
made last Friday night at the Opera......
moments that will never, ever be forgotten!
Thank you dear Aunt Teresa for a splendid
time and a scrumptious meal!!
I love you SO much!!!!

"An opera begins long before the curtain goes up
and ends long after it has come down.
It starts in my imagination,
it becomes my life, and it stays part of my life
long after I've left the opera house.
"
~ Maria Callas

Now.... here is a question for you~
"Have you ever been to the Opera.....and if so,
what is your favorite Opera?"

"In every thing give thanks: for this is the will
of God in Christ Jesus concerning you"

I'm sad to say I've never been to a proper opera, Jenny! Now that I'm blessed with daughters, I hope I can take them some day and we can enjoy together. :)

How delightful to spend time with someone you love so. Glad you had such a special evening. I actually prefer theater to the opera.

I'm so glad you enjoyed the opera!!! Here in Chattanooga it is possible to attend dress rehearsals of operas for a nominal fee. It's a great opportunity for homeschooling families. We absolutely love it. I hope you get to enjoy many more in your lifetime!

An enchanting Morning to you Jen!

May I let you know, that I have discovered in Salzburg Austria,
a magnificent Opera from Mozart,
called:" Bastien,Bastienne."
If you could listen to it,I am quite sure that you will dearly enjoy this outstanding piece.
Have a wonderful Day!

What a wonderful memory! I would have loved to have seen a picture of you and your Aunt Teresa dressed for the occasion, how beautiful and elegant you must have looked.

I have never had the privilege of going to the Opera and really am not that familiar with any. What ones would you recommend for a newbie Miss Jen?

Thanks so much for sharing your special evening with us and have a beautiful day in the Lord!

Oh, I stand corrected. I just read Lady Farmer's reply and I have seen Bugs Bunny in the Barber of Seville :)

Okay, it looks like there aren't many guy comments around here, but I think this post needs one for balance:

Why waste an otherwise perfect evening attending an opera? Don't you have to buy a transcript just to understand what's going on? Why pay money to see a lot of people get red in the face with hysterics over every bend in the plot?

Having offered my criticism, I admit I've never been to an opera. Attending could change my mind, perhaps, but I refuse to give myself the chance. If I opened the door to operas the next thing you know I'd be purchasing ballet tickets every other weekend. . .
