Fabric Woven...

~Pot Holder~

It was a sweet delight to read all of your many guesses...
everyone had so many unique and excellent ideas that
could be used for the
Fabric Weaving Method.

Some of these ideas were...
placemats, tote bags, purses,
chair cushions, quilts
and the list indeed goes on....

But... since I was in desperate
need of some new pot holders,
I decided this would be an elegant
way to dress up an otherwise
very simple cooking accessory.

Now for....
The Special Tutorial

Start by selecting a lovely
combination of fabrics....
using a variation of dark and light colors.
A Jelly Roll works really well
for this sewing project...
since your strips need to be cut
2 1/2 " or 3" in width.

On your handy-dandy sewing machine...
...simply fold and sew your strips in half
with wrong sides together and
right sides facing out.

~Note~
It is not necessary to sew your right
sides together here~ because your
seams will not be seen.

Press your strips...
so they are crisp and very flat.
Now here is the fun part...

Weaving Time!!

Place strips on top of a piece of batting...
(cut the batting according to how big you
would like your finished project to be.)

~Weaving Instructions~
Place x number of dark colored strips
going in a horizontal direction.
Place x number of light colored strips
going in a vertical direction.
Start weaving.... by taking a strip...
going under and over... under and over...
until you have completed your desired size.
Adjust weave so it is snug and neat.

Now for Pinning....

Once you have woven your art piece...
simply pin the edges to the batting
and sew around the edge with your machine~

After you have sewn around the edge...
cut off excess batting and material,
about a 1/4" from your seam...
Be careful to not clip your seam!!

Meanwhile cut your border
about 2-3 inches wide.

Sew the border around... your
"woven fabric square"
...Layer with another piece of batting
and a piece of solid backing fabric.

Sew together as you would a pillow...
with right sides together~
leaving a little gap to turn
inside out...

Press~ point corners... and
finish by~sewing the gap with
a little hidden stitch...

And...
Voila'.... you have just made a darling little
"Fabric Woven Potholder!"
Enjoy!!

The perfect accompaniment
for your warm pot of soup...

"She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh
willingly with her hands."
-Proverbs 31:13

This is beautiful, Jen! And no turning! My favorite kind of strip! It hurts my fingers to turn narrow strips.

A friend gave me a Jelly Roll and I was wondering what to do with it. Most patterns seem to require 2 of them, it seems. Anyway, this elevates the humble potholder to new heights! *And* it's a perfet way to use my Jelly Roll gift!
