Darling Pincushions...
whether they are tiny or big
are ideal gifts for any inspired seamstress.
On Christmas day who wouldn't want
to receive such a lovely little darling.... which will come
in handy for the many projects that lie ahead..... ;)
This homemade pincushion is simple to make
yet~ darling and stylish.
The possibilities are indeed endless.
~Start by~
Choosing Your Fabric
Using a circle template...
Cut either a 5 1/2" circle
or a 10" circle~
depending on if you want
a tiny pincushion or a large one.
Fold and press the circle
over about a 1/4"
and sew... a Gathering Stitch
Pull thread gingerly...
gathering to~ form a pouch.
Here is the fun part...
Stuff :) your pincushion till it is
nicely fluffy and dense.
Pull your ending thread firmly to secure
a tight & gathered pincushion and
knot off... leaving an opening on top.
Next cut a small circle of Felt to fit
your opening on top...
Thread a long needle with
Embroidery Thread
and tie a secure knot at the end.
Pull needle and thread through your felt
so that the knot will be on the wrong side.
Place your felt circle in the middle of your pincushion.
Push needle down through your topper
and out the bottom (in the middle) of your
pincushion.
Going in and out...
Under your felt topper
sew about 6 or 8 strands to stabilize
your pincushion and provide a stylish flare.

~To Finish off your little darling~
Simply sew around your felt topper
(with your embroidery thread)
Either a whip stitch, satin stitch or a blanket stitch.
Finish off your Pincushion
with a Darling little button in the middle
or a felt flower... the possibilities are many.
I decided to go the Button Route
and had fun sifting through my jar of...
~Vintage Buttons~
fun &
practical too!
are full of so many sweet memories.

Oh Ms Jen...
Thank you for sharing. I so love this pattern, and I am going to give it a try. I have always admired the ones that folks are making, and so wanted to make one too. I would love to make one for my Moma also.
Thank you for sharing. I will keep you posted on how I do.
Country hugs...Sherry

Beautiful treasures, Miss Jen! I love your tutorials. =)
Thanks for the link to the lovely Nutcracker clip! Was this the particular ballet that you sang in? I'll be thinking of you whenever I here that music now!
And for your last post: I love December, too...frost on windowpanes, the smell of evergreens, baking gingerbread and sugar cookies, setting up the Nativity, babies excitedly opening the advent calender...oh, how fun!
What a great gift idea! Too bad I don't sew! Such a shame! I love your previous post as well! I think my favorite part of December is thinking back on the excitement I had growing up in my father's church. The memories are so precious to me! Enjoy your day!
What a cute creation, Jen!!! If I made it, it would almost be hard for me to poke it full of tiny holes. :)
Blessings to you friend~
Cora
I wanted to post a link to this on my blog. Do you mind if I use one of your pictures?
Miss Jen,
These are SO adorable! I don't think I have ever seen a pin cushion look so attractive. I like how you have layered the cushions, which makes the cushions look like a colorful little tree. You are such a creative and talented young femina! =D
Thanks for the picture! I love your blog, it is one of my favorites...it is beautiful and you are always making me hungry! :)
Oh Miss Jen! Those were absolutely lovely!!! I just love your choice of fabrics. =)

Hello Miss Jen!
My name is Elizabeth and I found your blog through Emily Rose at SimplyVintageGirl. These pincushions are simply lovely! The photography is beautiful, as well!
Also, I have a question: where do you find your beautiful paintings on your sidebar? Thanks! (you could leave a comment at my blog www.joyfuljewels4jesus.blogspot.com with the answer, if you woud like).
Joyfully in Jesus,
Elizabeth
